Ilyas is a Ph.D. student within the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Queensland. His research interests mainly include the utilization of large spatial data to model the compounding impact of climate change and mining developments on wildlife habitat in Indonesia, understanding deforestation patterns caused by land-use change dynamics, and evaluating the effectiveness of protected areas implementation in Indonesia.
Before pursuing graduate studies, Ilyas worked as a Remote sensing-GIS technician and field researcher in the Center for Environment and Sustainability Science Indonesia. Currently, he is involved in the Ecological Cascades Lab with Dr. Matthew S. Luskin to reveal the multi-scale habitat associations of Southeast Asian wildlife.
