Dr. Laura Sonter is a Senior lecturer in Environmental Management in the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences and the Centre for Biodiversity and Conservation Science at The University of Queensland. She received her PhD in 2014 from UQ and completed her post-doctoral research at the Gund Institute for Environment, where she continues to hold an affiliate position. Her research seeks to understand global drivers of deforestation, with a specific focus on demand for minerals and mining, quantify associated consequences for biodiversity and ecosystem services, and evaluate conservation policy and decision making.
